Walsh Island (@1.5) vs Ballycumber (@2.87)

Our Prediction:

Walsh Island will win

Walsh Island – Ballycumber Match Prediction | 13-09-2019 15:00

Gracefield should welcome back the two Fitzpatricks and that added firepower could give them the edge in what could be a very hard fought and entertaining game. Offaly"s two midfielders, Ciaran McManus and Niall Smith, will do battle at midfield and both players are likely to play a big role, but Gracefield"s half-back and half-forward lines should win the battle for breaking ball and their greater scoring ability should be too much for Tubber to handle, as a club who find scoring more than twelve times extremely difficult.

Birr can win this, but they"ll need to score at least two more goals than Doon do, possibly three. Doon aren"t firing on all cylinders by any means, but they scored 1-14 against Kilcormac/Killoughey last time out and Birr can only dream of scoring fifteen times in a single game. Doon to win by between two and three goals is the verdict. Doon warmed up for this match with a big league win over Daingean during which they scored four goals - scoring two or three more than that could prove difficult.

Stalwarts like Fergal Beacon and Declan Kelly will do their best, but they look outgunned by a Walsh Island team who have Brian and Ross Connor dominating the middle and Alan and Willie Mulhall to convert the chances that will undoubtedly ensue. Kilclonfert"s narrow win over Ballyfore in the last round kept alive their hopes of progression to the knockout stages of the Intermediate Football Championship, but getting into the last six is one thing - getting a result over Walsh Island is quite another. The Island have come through their two games so far with some ease and nothing that Kilclonfert have shown this season suggests that they can rock the boat.

We guess twelve. As for the margin? They may or may not manage that much, but they will beat Clara this Sunday. Clara had a good win over Raheen in the previous round and veterans like Kieran O"Meara and Willie Reynolds are very solid players at this level, but Brigid"s were very unlucky to be relegated last year and they appear to have upped their standard again in an attempt to return to senior at the first attempt. Of the twelve games previewed in this paper, the only way there could be any surprise in this game would be if it turned out not to have the biggest winning margin of the whole weekend - that would be shock enough.

However, a quick look at some of the names available to Rhode - the McNamees, the Sullivans, the Darbys, Paschal Kelleghan, Roy Malone - and it"s hard to see a performance as poor as they put in against Shannonbridge being repeated. Ferbane have rediscovered their pride and won"t concede an inch, but Rhode are still the class act in Offaly and should prove that once again on Sunday afternoon. If both sides repeated their performance from last Sunday week, there would be every chance that Ferbane would get the four-point win that they need to guarantee their progression into the next round.

While on Sunday (28th) in Division 5, the Juniors play Kilclonfert at home with a 12.00pm throw-in. Last weekend saw the league campaigns up and running for the Seniors and Juniors to mixed success. The Seniors had a well earned win over Gracefield on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-10 on Friday 12 March, while on Saturday 13 March, the Juniors lost to Bracknagh in a poor match on a score line of 1-7 to 0-8.Next weekend sees round 2 of the leagues. Best of luck to all involved.

Sean Hackett, Luke Gavin Mangan and Adrian again kicked points for Ballycumber. Adrian Kelly was very busy in the forward line and his industry was rewarded with a point. Jack Quinn got the first point of the game in the first minute and was quickly followed by his brother Cormac. Adrian kicked over a 13metre free after a foul on Nigel Grennan and also fisted a point from an acute angle. Walsh Island's first point was an excellent kick from 50 metres. Walsh Island completed the scoring from a 40 metre free to leave Ballycumber leading at half time 0-8 to 0-5. A pointed 45 and a point from play reduced the margin. Straight from the kick out Walsh Island moved the ball up the pitch and got their second point.
